A day after the burial of her beloved father, Alhaji Alihu Mahama’s only Daughter spoke to Joy News in an exclusive interview about her father's diagnosis and her impressions on the states' handling of his burial processes.
As culture and tradition dictates, many more people continue to march into the private home of the former vice president in Tamale where his mortal remains now rest.
The grave is sited close to the living room where his widow Hajia Ramatu Mahama sits.
Salma Mahama, the only daughter of the late former Veep explains that the first time news of her father's death broke; she was picking up her children from school. She narrates, “I had no idea how I managed to drive from Labone to Korle Bu but it turned out to be false until the next two days”.
The cause of his death is still unknown, but close sources say he had a heart defect.
Salma, discounted claims that being on life support meant one is as good as dead as a section of the public were made to believe. She added, “my mother was once on life support but regained consciousness and is now well and much stronger”.
For her, the most important thing is an optimism that her father is in heaven and the necessary traditions observed accordingly.
