The Controller and Accountant General, Mr. Christian Sottie has denied making unauthorized deductions from the salaries of civil servants.
He was commenting on reports of a planned demonstration by a group of public sector workers, known as the Association of Victims of Unauthorized Deductions and accusations by the Executive Secretary of the Civil Servants Association, Smart Chigabatia that he Mr. Sottie, was not doing enough to stop the deductions which began in April this year.
Mr. Chigabatia told Joy News that though he has informed the Controller as well as the Finance Minister about the anomaly, no action has been taken.
But the Controller and Accountant General says the deductions were as a result of errors in the software used by the department.
He said he and his staff were similarly affected and could therefore not be any deliberate ploy.
Mr. Sottie said deductions have already been stopped and assured that affected workers will receive refunds in their October salaries but maintained that genuine and legal deductions would continue.
