At about 11:55 am on Tuesday, the World’s largest Airbus, the Emirates A380 touched the ground at the Kotoka International Airport’s Terminal three.
The Emirates A380 flight was operated by Ghanaian-born Capt. Solomon Quainoo, and UAE national First Officer, Faisal Alhammadi.
The one-off A380 flight EK787 from Dubai, stayed on the ground for more than six hours before departing at 17:50 hours to Dubai as flight EK788.
According to Aviation Minister, Joseph Kofi Adda the historic landing is significant to the country’s drive of becoming an aviation hub.
He said, “This means that we’ve come of age. Of age in the sense that we can take any type of aircraft from any part of the world and we have all the infrastructure to take care of any aircraft that will land here. Now we are where we can really become the hub in West Africa and possibly the African sub-region.”
The Executive Vice President of Emirates, Orhan Abbas said the flight was made possible with the improved infrastructure at terminal three.
He said, “we commend the vision and foresight of the government in investing in a world-class airport facility which will further open up Ghana to greater trade and tourism.”
