A Kumasi High court has granted an interim injunction restraining General Portfolio Limited, publishers of The Chronicle and its agents, from publishing in their newspaper any matter concerning Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, Kwabre West constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
The court, presided over by Mr Kwame Ansu-Gyeabour, further ordered that the interim injunction together with the writ of summons and statement of claim be served on the defendants before November 6.
In a statement of claim, Odeneho Kwaku Appiah denied that he was flirting with the Reformed Patriotic Democrats (RPD) as was published by the Chronicle in its October 18, 2007 edition.
According to the statement, after issuing a rejoinder through his solicitors to the paper and its subsequent publication, the Ashanti Regional Correspondent of the paper, Mr Sebastian Freiku, on Wednesday October 24, 2007 edition of the paper, further published incriminating reports that sought to portray the complainant as a liar and deeply involved in the activities of the RPD.
The statement said the publications were a deliberate attempt by the paper and its correspondents to bring the loyalty of Odeneho Kwaku Appiah, who is a bonafide member of the NPP, into disrepute.
It said the publication further sought to portray the complainant as a liar in the eyes of right thinking people, especially members of the NPP family.
