A massive win by Philip Addison at the Klottey Korle NPP parliamentary primary election over the weekend dominated the news on Monday morning.
Monday also marked the beginning of a three-day strike by the Ghana Union of Traders Association (GUTA) to protest the introduction of some new taxes by government.

Later in the day, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presented what the party called the true state of the nation.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo described President John Mahama’s State of the Nation Address as disrespectful to Ghanaians.

In his view, the president, ignored the struggles of the ordinary Ghanaian when he failed to focus on the economy and opted to focus on propaganda.
And before the NPP could finish presenting its real state of the nation address, President John Dramani Mahama replied on Facebook.
He entreated the NPP not to minimize his achievements.

He stated in the post that the opposition is exercising its democratic right to criticize, which is a proof that we are living in a healthy democracy.
On that same day, the three teacher unions- NAGRAT, GNAT and CCT- called off an intended industrial action. They want a validation exercise completed.
On the Super morning show, Tuesday, the 2016 vice Presidential Candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, promised that the NPP will salvage Ghana’s economy in 2017.

Then the National Democratic Congress (NDC) reacted to the NPP’s true state of the nation’s address.

The party questioned the credibility and leadership skills of the NPP’s 2016 Flagbearer. The NDC said Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo had no moral right to criticize government.
On Wednesday, the NDC announced its decision to back out of the Abuakwa North bye-election later this month.
In a statement, the party said, "the scar of grief and sorrow emanating from such barbaric act would take a longer time to heal", and that the party has decided to desist from contesting since it would aggravate the family's grief.
And also a leaked letter purported to have been authored by the Electoral Commission (EC) indicated the NDC’s parliamentary Candidate for Klottey Korle constituency, Dr Zanetor Rawlings is not a registered voter.
Later in the day there was the news of Agogo and Old Tafo protestors confronting the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the Airport. The Ashanti king has been away on a private visit to South Africa and was returning home.
Then on Thursday, the Speaker of parliament lashed out at Members of parliament. He warned the legislators to desist from passing unsavoury comments on the floor of parliament.

The week was closed with a challenge from the New Patriotic Party. The party dared government to arrest its flagbearer Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo over allegations he caused a judgment debt in the sale of the controversial drill ship.
And also the maiden edition of the Joy Ballot Box was held at the Cape Coast University, where hundreds of people in the region voted on what will determine their vote in the November 7 polls this year.
