The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) has said it is committed to establishing an Advertising Institute in two years.
According to the Association, this has become necessary to harness good advertising practices in the country.
The new president of the AAG, Torbor Mensah disclosed this to JoyBusiness during the Association’s 6th investiture ceremony in Accra.
He said, “My predecessors started something that is, training people on the job sometimes 1 month, 2 hours… it is time for us to upgrade that into an institution of advertising…”
Mr. Mensah said, “This we all have agreed to do and I will ensure that by the time I finish my first term of 2 years, we will start the school and there are Ghanaians who are very experienced in advertising; we need to establish an institution that will just do advertising; there’s money in the business.”
AAG profile
The Advertising Association of Ghana (AAG) is the industry body and professional institute for Ghana’s thriving and highly potent advertising and marketing communications business.
The Association was established to among other reasons, promote public confidence in the Advertising profession.
Meanwhile, the sector has faced some challenges due to the entry of some unlicensed and unprofessional advertisers.
Mr Mensah said his outfit would make some amendments to include social media advertising in the Advertising Standard Authority Bill which is currently awaiting parliamentary approval.
Business Development Minister, Dr Ibrahim Mohammed Awal, speaking at the event, urged the AAG to help rebrand the country as a business location.
He said, “The only way Ghana can benefit is to tell our story to attract investments’ I, therefore, want to use this platform to challenge AAG and other organizations to help position Ghana as the most valuable brand in Africa for business.”
He also lamented the danger unauthorized positioning of billboards poses to the public and urged the AAG to improve its ethical and professional standards.
Torgbor Mensah succeeds Joel Nettey as president and would be deputized by Mansa Amoa-Awuah.
