One person died and 11 others including a four year old are serious condition at the Wa regional hospital following an accident that occurred on the Tuna- Sawla highway.
The accident happened when the driver, travelling from Wa to Techiman, lost control after approaching a curve and run in to a ditch. They sustained multiple degrees of wounds with some having their ears chopped off.
According to an eye witness who gave his name as Stephen Boateng the accident took place around 3:00 pm in between Tuna and Sawla trunk road on the way to Kumasi.
The victims were in a Wa bound Techiman SsangYong bus when the accident occurred.
Mr. Boateng said he suspected the driver might have lost control of the bus due to overspeeding.
The only person who was in stable condition is this 23 year old who gave his name as Abdul Samad blamed the driver of the vehicle for the accident who he said was over speeding.
‘‘I joined the bus at Nyole and the driver since then has been over speeding until we got to that curve and the bus skidded off the road, ‘’he added.
One person believed to be in his fifties died on the spot and 11 others including a four-year old boy who was travelling with the grandmother sustained serious degree of wounds on their bodies. Some had their faces badly disfugured and one person lost an ear.
He picked six of the victims including the four year old boy back to the Wa regional hospital on his Navarra pickup.
Four of the victims were later brought to the hospital by a Metro Mass Transit bus.
The arrival of the victims at the Out-patient Department kept all nurses busy attending to them in order to stabilize their conditions.
