The Member of Parliament for the Adenta Constituency, Kojo Adu-Asare has described as unfortunate attempt by some members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) to denigrate the presidency.
According to him, for Kwabena Sarpong, a member of the NPP’s Communications team to say President J.E.A. Mills is ‘clueless’ on happenings around him is regrettable.
Kwabena Sarpong who appeared on MultiTV's political show Minority Caucus on Wednesday August 10 said President Mills has no clue on the things going on in his administration.
He added that for President Mills who professes to be God fearing to allow his appointees to go on an insulting spree against their opponents and also lie to Ghanaians, is evidence enough of the president's hold on governance in the country.
But speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Thursday, Kojo Adu-Asare said politics of insults is part of the campaign strategy of the NPP in their bid to unseat the NDC government.
He said according to the Oxford advance dictionary, clueless means ‘very stupid or not able to understand or do something’ which is usually used for people who are paralyzed and cannot do things on their own.
The NDC MP noted that, for a member of the NPP to use such a word to describe President Mills, calling the integrity of the president to question exposes the opposition party’s agenda to denigrate the presidency.
The Adenta MP observed that if the NPP decides to use idiomatic expressions to insults President Mills and members of his NDC, they would much them ‘boot for boot’.
Kojo Adu-Asare recounted some incidence where some members of the NPP have engaged in politics of insults against the President and his appointees to butress his claims.
“In just two weeks, John Kuma went berserk; just a week after, the Communications Director (Nana Akomea) also followed suit -‘ stupid fool’ - on a live programme both on TV and radio and then another - ‘very stupid’- to concretize the word stupid," he added.
He took a swipe at the flag bearer of the NPP, Nana Akufo-Addo for not openly reprimanding members of his party who insult the presidency.
“We are getting to a very sour point in our body politics. We should not use the opportunity we have had to denigrate our own seat. The elections and its results will show what Ghanaians want”.
