Residents of Adenta are complaining bitterly about the services of some waste management companies operating in the area. They say Zoomlion Ghana Limited which used to operate in the area offered free bins and charged less but that has changed with the new companies. One of the new companies, AMANIE Waste management which operates within the Adjiringarno community for instance, collects 15 Ghana Cedis per household a month for waste collection. One aggrieved resident told Joy News that she got information from the Adenta Municipality that Zoomlion was no longer going to collect her waste. But unlike Zoomlion which supplied her with a free bin and charged GH¢10 a month for collecting her waste, the new company charged her GH¢15 for registration, GH¢15 monthly for waste collection and offered her no bin.She doesn’t understand why a waste management company must be imposed on her.“Why am I not allowed to choose the waste collection company I want to deal with? Why are these people being imposed on me and then I have to even pay more? She asked.Another resident expressed frustration that in addition to the high fees charged, the AMANIE Waste Company is not collecting waste regularly as promised. But Head of Waste Management Department of the Adenta Municipality, Prince Buaso said the charges are based on classification of the residential areas. He said First Class residential areas were paying GH¢15, 2nd Class residential areas paid GH¢10 with the residents of the 3rdClass residential areas paying five Ghana cedis. The Adenta Municipal Chief Executive, Kakra Vanlare said there could be waste management crisis in the Municipality if residents do not cooperate.Source: Joy News/Ghana
