MP for Dome Kwabenya, Sarah Adwoa Safo, has been subjected to relentless trolling on social media for claiming a school built in her constituency was through her personal efforts.
The Deputy Majority Leader in a video that went viral on social media claimed that she lobbied the World Bank to fund the construction of a community day senior high school sited in her constituency.
The school block in question is one of the community day schools former President John Mahama’s government promised and built.
The President and his National Democratic Congress party promised in their election 2012 campaign to build 200 community day schools.
This, the president said was to expand access to secondary education and was a better policy than the blanket free senior high school education promised by the then opposition New Patriotic Party.
The buildings were designed in E-shape with the ‘E’ symbolising Excellence, according to then President Mahama himself.
Some of the schools were sponsored by the World Bank. The one sited at Kwabenya in the Ga East Municipality of the Greater Accra was one of such schools.
Strangely, the MP in the video claimed that she personally lobbied the World Bank to fund the construction of the school and that she provided land for the project.
Former Deputy Education Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has in a statement that does not mention the MP, traced the history of the project, concluding that "credit must be given where credit is due."
But there has been a social media storm with the Dome Kwabenya MP being the butt of jokes.
The trolling is so intense and relentless even her most partisan supporters may struggle to defend her.
