Just a month after his endorsement to lead the elephant family for the next four years, Mr. Paul Afoko, together with his team, has started enjoying the support of the party’s grassroots base.
Over a hundred Polling Station Executives from the three Northern Regions (Northern, Upper East and Upper West Regions) have declared their unflinching support to the Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and his team with a promise of working harder to enable the party achieve a resounding victory in the 2016 general elections.
“Chairman Afoko, we are proud of you because we know you can do it. We are by your side all the time,” noted the Polling Station Executives in a communiqué signed by all the members. It was issued in Tamale moments after coming together to form a union under the umbrella name Union of Polling Station Executives/Members (UPSEM).
UPSEM, a political cum economic body aims at empowering all Polling Station Executives/Members in the constituency. A similar exercise is expected to be rolled out in other constituencies countrywide.
The union seeks to train its members to engage in viable economic ventures for them to be self reliant.
That notwithstanding, it also aims at training the Polling Station Executives/Members to be politically awake and also made aware of the immense political power they wield as the bedrock, resource mobilizers, developers and watchdogs of the party’s fortunes.
“We are now bound together with a cord that cannot be broken. We are resolved more than ever to rededicate ourselves and demonstrate a higher sense of commitment to the cause of the party,” the statement said.
Following the formation of the union, the Polling Station Executives resolved to remain resolute and work harder and selflessly to advance the aspirations of the party.
They therefore, called on their brothers and sisters in the remaining constituencies to join hands with them in their pursuit to unseat the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) come 2016.
