The highly anticipated Africa AirBadminton Championships has kicked off at Laboma Beach, Accra, with approximately 108 athletes from 11 countries and regions participating.
The tournament, scheduled to run from July 3-6, features competitions in Team Relay, Women's Triples, and Men's Triples, with the highest-ranked teams in the Team Relay event earning a qualification spot for the AirBadminton World Cup 2025 in the UAE.
At the opening ceremony, notable figures addressed the athletes.
Ghana Badminton Association President Evans Yeboah emphasized the value of hard work and dedication, saying, "You stand here in truth and you stand here as a sports person.
"It will reckon all the things that you have put in, will be valuable to the success that you want to achieve."
Badminton Confederation Africa President Mr. Bau Tukebana Michael highlighted the growing popularity of AirBadminton, stating, "AirBadminton is progress all over the world and I guarantee you in the years to come, it's going to be the most popular than the number one, because it can be played on the beach, on the grass, and everywhere."
Ghana Olympics Committee President Richard Akpokavie ESQ wished the athletes well, emphasizing the Olympic values of Excellence, Respect, and Friendship.
Minister of Sports and Recreation Hon. Kofi Iddie Adams commended the athletes for their energy and praised the Local Organizing Committee and Ghana Badminton Association for their efforts in hosting the tournament.
The tournament continues with exciting fixtures, promising an electrifying experience for fans and participants alike.
