Domestic airline Africa World Airlines (AWA) has commenced flights from Kumasi to Tamale.
The airline has for the past three years been flying only the Accra-Tamale route - making it challenging for travelers to and from Kumasi to access direct flights to Tamale.
AWA has for some time now been flying the Accra-Tamale route – airlifting passengers and cargo four daily.
Until now, passengers of AWA traveling from Kumasi to Accra and vice versa had to either travel to Accra to join a Tamale-bound flight or go by bus – a phenomenon that increased their cost of traveling.
But the operations on the Kumasi-Tamale route is going to change now.
Commercial Manager of AWA Richard Kyereh tells JOY BUSINESS the introduction of the route is essential to ease the burden of passengers.
He added that “the joy of connecting these two big cities in this current economic situation is the possibility of passengers especially, students and business men and women commuting swiftly and at a lower cost."
According to Mr. Kyereh, AWA couldn’t lift fuel from Kumasi but now with the help of the Ghana Airport Company, it can easily be done since the introduction of the route.
Some passengers who patronized the maiden flight expressed delight with the introduction of the service.
They told JOY BUSINESS this would go a long way to not only reduce their traveling expenses but make them more efficient in their business activities.
One of them said, “I use domestic airlines a lot as it helps me move quickly from one place to another especially, for business transactions so I will encourage others to patronize domestic airline. Traveling from Kumasi to Tamale was a big problem for me but now I can easily commute between the two regions."
Passengers can now fly the Kumasi-Tamale route 4 times every week – Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday.
