African leaders are meeting in the Algerian capital, Algiers, for an extraordinary summit to consider a proposal in the New Partnership for Africa's Development (NEPAD).
The meeting will consider whether to incorporate activities of NEPAD into that of the African Union so that the initiative does not stand as an autonomous body.
Heads of State of the Implementation Committee of NEPAD are attending the summit.
Speaking to Joy News from Algiers, the Press Secretary to the President, Andrew Awuni said that there’s optimism the proposal will be adopted since the two bodies have a similar goal.
