Imams in Zongo communities in the Ahafo-South District, have added their plea to the President to re-instate the sacked District Chief Executive, Mr Gabriel Yaw Barimah.
They cited his open-mindedness and fair treatment of all people, regardless of their political party affiliations, religion or ethnic backgrounds, and said he is the best man for the job.
They also hailed the strong passion, zeal and commitment, with which he worked to bring development and improvement in the lives of the people.
The Imams expressed these sentiments at a press conference, addressed by Alhaji Fuseini Abdulai, the Chief Imam, at Mankranso.
They said his infamous “tweaa” remark that earned him his dismissal, unfortunate as it was, has been over-played, and that the DCE has actually been misunderstood.
They do not consider it fair for Mr Barimah to be punished “for insisting on discipline and acceptable conduct by health professionals, who have no respect and have consistently shown contempt for a section of the population”.
The Imams condemned the situation where people from the Zongo communities in area are shabbily treated at the health facilities, and said that was at the heart of the confusion on the day of the “tweaa” incident.
The conference was attended by Imams and opinion leaders in all the Zongo communities across the district.
Alhaji Abdulai praised Mr Barimah for working hard to improve schools infrastructure and sanitation in Zongos communities within the district.
