On Sunday, December 7th, we voted for the next Parliament and a new President. No candidate for the Presidency got the required 50% plus one vote, hence the run-off scheduled for Sunday.
Throughout this election, some voices have been raised in anger and confrontation. Occasionally, there has been violence.
Since the vote on December 7th, the tone of our public discourse has worsened. Threats have been issued and in some instances, there has been violence. These developments are not healthy for our nation and her development. They should concern all of us.
Throughout this campaign, while calling for peace and reconciliation in public, I have, consistent with my faith, prayed for divine guidance and intervention for our nation in private.
Tonight, I ask all people of faith, to join me in praying for our nation.
Let us pray for peace, on Sunday as we vote and beyond.
Let us pray, for unity, on Sunday and beyond.
Let us pray, for humility, so that regardless of the outcome, we can all accept it as God’s will.
Let us pray that no matter the results, Ghana will be the winner.
As Psalmists says in Psalm 127:1 “Except the Lord buildeth, they labour in vain that try to build”
Let us beseech the Lord to build and to bless this nation so that we can be an example unto the nations.
On Sunday, may God guide and guard all of us as we vote, in peace and for peace.
Have a happy holiday and a very successful 2009.
Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo
(NPP Presidential Candidate)
