The ruling New Patriotic Party presidential candidate Nana Akufo-Addo was on Thursday morning officially confirmed by the Electoral Commission as a prospective president.
He, in the company of his running mate Mahamudu Bawumia submitted their nomination forms amidst pomp by numerous supporters who thronged the offices of the Electoral Commission.
Nana Akufo-Addo paid in full the nomination fee of GH¢5000.
At a short ceremony to officially induct the two into the race for the 2008 presidential election, Dr. Afari Gyan chairman of the EC advised the two to conduct a campaign free from insult and vilification.
He congratulated them for meeting the requirements and hoped that the election would be free from violence.
Nana Akufo-Addo gave the assurance that his party would abide by the tenets of transparency and fairness to ensure a violence free election.
He reiterated the call for a campaign devoid of insults, adding, he has been at the centre of needless accusations but had not found it prudent to go along that path.
Party Chairman Mr. Peter Mac Manu and his General Secretary, Nana Ohene Ntow were the signatories to the nomination of Nana Akufo-Addo and his running mate.
The opposition National Democratic Congress presidential candidate Prof. John Evans Atta Mills is also expected to file later today.
