The Minority is not happy about the Koforidua High Court’s decision to convict the Member of Parliament for Akwatia, Ernest Yaw Kumi for contempt of court.
Mr. Kumi had an injunction placed on him, barring him from being sworn in as an MP. However, he proceeded to Parliament on January 7 and took his oath.
In response, the court convicted him of contempt and has since issued a bench warrant for his arrest.
Addressing journalists in Parliament on Wednesday, February 19, the Minority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, described the court's decision as unfair and assured that the caucus would take the necessary legal steps to support their colleague.
“We've become aware of the Koforidua’s high court's decision. We are here to procure the court ruling and the orders of the court, the lawyers are going to brief the caucus, and we will come out with our position on the matter.

“Meanwhile, I'm sure all necessary steps will be taken to ensure that our colleague is law-abiding and ensure that the right thing is done. But we have to say that we are dissatisfied with the approach, and we think that he has been treated unfairly,” he stated.
He added that the Minority "would come out fully with our position when we receive a full briefing from the lawyers."
