Former Trade Minister, Alan Kyeremanteng is proposing the setting up of what he calls a bi-partisan economic reconstruction team to tackle Ghana’s worsening economic conditions.
Ghana’s economic challenges seem to have deepened as the value of the cedi continues to decline against major trading currencies.
Various groups have also demonstrated to demand solutions from government.
A non partisan economic forum came up with 22-point recommendations christened the Senchi Consensus to salvage Ghana’s economic doldrums.
But speaking to journalists after filing his nomination to lead the New Patriotic Party in 2016, Mr Alan Kyerematen said it is now a known fact that Ghana’s economy is in crisis and asked the government to take a serious view of his proposal.

The presidential aspirant however acknowledged that fixing the economy would require the contribution of all and charged government to take the lead role.
“As a matter of urgency, government should put together a bipartisan team of advisors and experts to develop and formulate a new economic reconstruction programme for Ghana to find the solution to this crisis,” he suggested.
He submitted that the team should have at the centre of its agenda the private sector, business interest and job creation.
Mr. Kyerematen also proposed that the programme is anchored to address four critical issues: arrest decline in the value of cedi; significantly reduce government borrowing; reduce inflation on long term basis; and introduce policy measures that would lead to a decline of interest rate.
Mr Alan Kyerematen also promised to build the party’s grassroots in order to secure victory in 2016.
