The Volta Regional Minister, Nii Laryea Afotey Agbo says heavy security stationed in Alavanyo and Nkonya townships will remain there until after six weeks. The measure became necessary after resurgent violence in the land dispute claimed two lives - a man and his four-month-old baby at Alavanyo.A peace pact was signed five days ago to end hostilities in a conflict over land which has lasted for more than 90 years and claimed many lives. The feuding factions have pledged never again to use violence to settle their differences.A combined team of police and military personnel have been deployed to the two towns to “contain the security breaches ongoing in the area”, the Interior Ministry has said.It added that the “6:00pm – 6:00am curfew is still in place [and that] anyone caught breaking it will be dealt with severely”.Speaking on Top Story Volta Regional Minister who is also the Chairman of the Volta Regional Security Council said the security presence will remain in the area for at least six weeks. The curfew would be monitored and reviewed on a periodic basis until authorities can positively report of lasting peace before lifting it.Meanwhile, eight people have been picked up for breaking curfew.
