Editor of New Punch newspaper, Ato Sam, also known as Baby Ansaba has alleged that Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a co-opted member of the Volta Regional Executive of the ruling party and a former Vice Honorary Consul of Austria orchestrated the anti Gbevlo Lartey demonstration in Accra.
According Baby Ansaba, per his investigation in the Hohoe North constituency, the evidence gathered point to Mr. Woyome as spearheading moves to ensure Mr. Larry Gbevlo Lartey is ousted from his post.
On Tuesday October 4th, 2011, a group calling itself Concerned Group of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) demonstrated at the ruling party’s headquarters demanding the immediate dismissal of the National Security Coordinator, Lt-Col. (rtd) Larry Gbevlo-Lartey.
The group listed a litany of accusations against the Security Coordinator including the fact that he is working against President J.E.A. Mills when he purchased a vehicle for a chief alleged to have insulted the president.
They also claim the security capo is using his position to impose his son, Nestor Gbevlo Lartey on the people of Hohoe North constituency as the NDC’s parliamentary candidate.
The Concerned Group of the NDC feared if Gbevlo Lartey is not given a sack, his actions could derail the party’s chances of retaining power in 2012.
But the National Security Coordinator, Mr. Gbevlo Lartey in a quick rebuttal accused an unnamed individual within the NDC of masterminding the demonstration against him.
However, Baby Ansah on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen programme Friday, corroborated the Security Coordinator’s claims insisting that Mr. Alfred Woyome mobilized the group to demand the dismissal of the Security Coordinator.
He explained that the action by Mr. Woyome was necessitated by the ambition of the son of the National Security Coordinator, Nesta Gbevlo Lartey to contest the parliamentary position in constituency.
He alleged that ten constituency executives in Hohoe North who owe allegiance to Mr. Woyome have promised to ensure that Nesta Gbevlo Lartey is disqualified from contesting the parliamentary primaries.
Baby Ansaba also claimed that the ten constituency executives on September 22nd, 2011 organise a press conference also demanding that Mr. Larry Gbevlo Lartey be sacked a National Security Coordinator.
He observed that since the press conference by the Hohoe North constituency executives did not yield the results he (Woyome) wanted; the demonstration in Accra was staged to increase pressure on President J.E.A. Mills.
Baby Ansaba expressed shock at the Mr. Woyome who is only seeking his personal interest.
Baby Ansaba said he is ready to provide more evidence to implicate Mr. Woyome if he challenges the story.
Meanwhile, Alfred Woyome, a philanthropist and a diplomat is also believed to be a major financier of the Atta Mills campaign in the 2008 general elections.
