The Information Minister has said people should support President Akufo-Addo assuring that every government decision is in the public interest.
Kojo Oppong Nkrumah said, “All the decisions the President has taken is in our interest. If we say stay at home, please stay at home. If you have to step out, not more than your neighbourhood, not further than your electoral area.”
He cited the cases of people in mandatory quarantine who exposed themselves to their colleagues who tested positive while they agitated and tried to defy the decision to keep them away from the public.
Mr Oppong Nkrumah was speaking on JoyNews’ special show, ‘The Lockdown”, March 29, 2020.
This was hours before the 14 days partial lockdown directive by the President took became effective at 1 am on March 30.
The Minister responded to several questions and concerns raised by viewers on the implementation of the directive to stay at home for 14 days to contain the spread of Covid-19 in the country.
Currently, three cities, Accra, Tema and Kumasi are observing partial lockdown where people are not supposed to go out of their homes except for essentials.
However, this excludes essential service providers like food vendors, the media, medical professionals and others.
During the lockdown period, these workers are supposed to provide an identity card that will serve as a pass to go through the various police checkpoints in the city.
Currently, there are 152 confirmed positive cases of coronavirus in Ghana and 5 deaths. Meanwhile, 2 of these cases have recovered.
In the face of this, a number of organisations and individuals have called on the president to declare a total lockdown of the country.
