Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kwesi Nyantakyi has weighed in on the state of Ghana football following the Black Stars’ failure to qualify for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The four-time African champions failed to win a single game in the qualifying series in a group that featured Niger, Sudan, and Angola, thereby missing out on the tournament to be played in Morocco next year for the first time in over two decades.
The situation has intensified scrutiny on the GFA and the technical team, with many calling for drastic changes.
Speaking to Lawson FM in Kumasi, Nyantakyi expressed both disappointment and optimism while calling for strategic changes in player selection.
“I don’t think all is lost, but we have to fix it,” he stated.
“We have World Cup qualifiers in March against Chad and Madagascar, and I believe that the right players will have to be called for these games.
"It should not be the normal call-ups but players who are ready and dedicated to play for the country and the shirt.”
The Black Stars will return to action in March 2025 for the 2026 World Cup qualifiers against Chad and Madagascar.
The games will be crucial as they seek to rebuild and restore public confidence in the national team.
