The police administration has dismissed allegations that they have reneged on their responsibility of providing security in the ongoing biometric registration exercise. The Greater Accra Region commander, DCOP Patrick Timbilla told Joy News’ Jefferson Sackey such allegations are “unfounded.”The police have been accused by the opposition New Patriotic Party of being compromised. The Ablekuma South parliamentary aspirant of the NPP Ursula Owusu alleged she was attacked and assaulted by thugs she claimed belong to the National Democratic Congress aspirant Nii Lantey Vanderpuye in the full glare of the police. She told Joy News she no longer feels safe around the police and would rather rely on the party’s private security. But in a reaction the police said they are still committed to maintaining law and order at all polling stations.DCOP Timbilla denied the police have been compromised and rather accused political party activists of not informing the police about such attacks as timely as they should.According to him, on few occasions when the information reached the police and moved to the scene of the reported attacks the trouble causers always bolted away.He said the police have deployed more men in areas considered hot spots in the ongoing process. He would rather the politicians reported cases of attacks to the police first than to their superiors in the party.
