Andre Ayew netted his 4th goal in 8 appearances for West Ham as the Hammers were held to a 2-2 draw by bottom placed Sunderland.
The Ghana deputy captain has hit new heights with the London club following his arrival from the African Cup of Nations.
However, serious injury suffered by Billy Jones overshadowed a late, but most likely futile, fightback from Sunderland against West Ham on Saturday.
Needing a win to keep even the slimmest of relegation hopes alive Sunderland made the worst possible start when Andre Ayew opened the scoring for the away side as Andy Carroll's mishit shot found its way into his path.
Sunderland had just gone past 700 minutes without a Premier League goal when Wahbi Khazri's corner went all the way in, as Victor Anichebe blocked off Darren Randolph.

Minutes after the break though West Ham were ahead again as James Collins headed in Robert Snodgrass' corner.
As the game stagnated it was broken by a nasty fall from Jones which saw him down for a considerable period of time as he received treatment and oxygen.
His replacement was Fabio Borini who slotted home a late equaliser after a terrible piece of goalkeeping from Randolph but they couldn't find a winner despite a red for Sam Byram five minutes from the end and the point probably won't be enough for the Black Cats.
