Barely 24 hours after an unknown assailant shot and killed one person and wounded two others in Bawku, another man has been gunned down thereby heightening security concerns in the area.
The deceased, Osmanu Inusah, 55, was shot on Saturday night at about 19:45 hours.
Although a native of the town, the deceased who is a cola dealer is said to be resident in Kumasi.
Police Superintendent John Kusobor, Bawku Municipal Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the deceased was attacked at his residence at Possum section of Bawku by two unknown armed men.
He said the assailants knocked on his door and when he opened they pulled him out of his room into the compound, beat him up and shot him in the chest and abdomen at close range.
The Police Commander said family members rushed him to the Bawku Presbyterian Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.
Superintendent Kusobor said the recent shooting incidents could not be immediately linked to the ethnic conflict in the area, adding that investigations were ongoing to unravel the situation.
He further stated that the deceased had since been buried according to Muslim tradition.
Meanwhile, armed security personnel have stepped up their patrols in the area as tension mounts amidst speculations of possible retaliation from the victim’s family and friends.
The GNA has also gathered that a high profile inter-security emergency meeting is ongoing as part of efforts to find answers to the questions surrounding the recent shootings that have claimed two lives.
