Parliament’s Appointments Committee is set to recommend the approval of Foreign Affairs Minister-designate Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Health Minister-designate Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, and ten other nominees who were vetted on Friday, January 31.
The decision was reached by consensus following the vetting process.
The committee, despite earlier tensions that led to a Minority walkout, proceeded with the evaluation of nominees, ultimately agreeing that all twelve ministers-designate met the required qualifications for their respective roles.
Alongside Okudzeto Ablakwa and Mintah Akandoh, the nominees set for approval include Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Minister of State in charge of Government Communications, Salisu Be-Awuribe Issifu, Minister-designate for the Savannah Region, and Wilbert Petty Brentum, Minister-designate for the Western North Region. Others are Joseph Nelson, Minister-designate for the Western Region, Joseph Addae Akwaboa, Minister-designate for the Bono Region, Francis Owusu Antwi, Minister-designate for the Bono East Region, and Puozuing Charles Lwanga, Minister-designate for the Upper West Region.
The recommendation of the Appointments Committee paves the way for a final decision by the plenary session of Parliament, where a formal vote will determine the confirmation of the nominees.
Given the consensus reached by the committee, their approval by the House is expected to be a mere formality.
