Incurably assertive, some say arrogant, Stephen Asamoah Boateng Tuesday turned into a preacher in Joy FM’s studios, eloquently preaching the word of God and professing his abiding faith in Christ. “In heavenly love abiding, no change my heart shall fear. And safe in such confiding, for nothing changes here. The storm may roar without me, my heart may low be laid, But God is round about me, and can I be dismayed? “Wherever He may guide me, no want shall turn me back. My Shepherd is beside me, and nothing can I lack. His wisdom ever waking, His sight is never dim. He knows the way He’s taking, and I will walk with Him,” he read the Methodist Hymn Book as saying Mr Asamoah Boateng, who arguably received the roughest of treatments when his party lost power in 2009 and he lost his Mfantseman West Parliamentary seat, said in those trying moments, he drew strength from the third paragraph of the Methodist Hymn Book 528 which reads: “Green pastures are before me, which yet I have not seen. Bright skies will soon be over me, where darkest clouds have been. My hope I cannot measure, my path to life is free. My Savior has my treasure, and He will walk with me.” He told Joy FM’s Super Morning Show that when officers of the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) accosted him, his wife and children at the Kotoko International Airport, confiscated his passport and bundled him into cells, “the guys there were just laughing, they couldn’t believe me. At the end of the day where God puts you, be there…the Apostle Paul could not have written the epistles if he wasn’t in Prison.” Asa B, who said he was born into a choir home touted his credentials as a chorister, saying he became a conductor of his church’s choir at age ten. A former Information Minister, Asa B described happenings at the ministry now as chaotic. He regretted that the ministry had been reduced to a propaganda outfit. The former Mfantseman West MP, who is currently fighting to recapture the seat, said claims that he constituted hordes of journalists into teams and doled out monies illegally to them to do the government’s bidding were mischievous and deliberate propaganda. The Kufuor government, according to him, had its communication strategy, just as the Mills government has. If anybody has any problems with the strategy, let the person tackle the government and cabinet for devising the strategy and approving it not him, the Information Minister at the time. He said the audit report that made those claims had been commissioned by the Chief of Staff for specific reasons – to muckrake. The NDC government, he believes unjustifiably sought to use him to set an example but “I am not the least intimidated”. The former Local Government Minister maintained he could not be cowered. He said his straight talking nature was either misconstrued, or deliberately distorted by his opponents, to suggest that he is arrogant. He said all governments must be seen to be dealing with the problems confronting the people not dealing with the people. While refusing to criticize the performance of government, he is confident the NPP flagbearer, Nana Akufo-Addo, will win the 2012 elections. "Land of our birth, we pledge to thee our love and toil in the years to be, when we are grown and take our place as men and women with our race," he sung. "Teach us to bear the yoke in youth, with steadfastness and careful truth, that, in our time, thy grace may give the truth whereby the nations live," he read, adding that "if the youth can abide by this, then we have a future and I believe Nana Addo will give us a (bright) future; NPP has a future for all of us."
