As part of the tradition to complete his initiation and installation process as Asafoatse of Osheku Wem in Prampram, an induction ceremony was held for Asafoatse Djanban IV by the Prampram Traditional Council on Tuesday.

A sacred ceremony that further legitimizes his reign as Asafoatse and for which he can participate in the activities of the council, was presided over by the Paramount Chief of Prampram and President of the Traditional Council, Nene Tetteh Waka III.

Asafoatse Djanban IV, who was fully clothed in an all-white warrior regalia decorated with various amulets including tortoiseshell, black necklace with shells, a black horse tail-like whip and ring, both wrists laced with traditional beads, nicely polished black royal sandals, and a pirate-like eye patch on the right eye, came to the council together with the list of items requested by the council.

Accompanied by elders, female priests, family and friends, was paraded through the principal streets of Prampram, amidst the sounds of trumpeters and drummers.

In an oath of office administered to him before the council, Asafoatse Djanban IV reiterated his commitment to serve with humility, listen to the wise counsel of the elders and play his part to ensure the integrity of the council.

Holding on to the royal sword which was used to administer the oath to him, he accepted to respect the secrecy governing the operations of the traditional council and assured the elders he will never breach any of them.

“I will not discuss matters of the Prampram Traditional Council with any other person, including friends and close relatives.”

Arguably the youngest Asafoatse to join the Traditional Council, Asafoatse Djanban IV also assured the Council he will do what is right to inspire the youth in Prampram and its environs, to conduct themselves in ways that will open up opportunities for them in the traditional area.

Advising the newly inducted Asafoatse to be of good behaviour, Nene Waka III reiterated earlier advice he offered him and pleaded with him to try and respect the oath he has taken.

He assured Asafoatse Djanban IV of the council’s readiness to work with him, irrespective of his youthful age, and encouraged him not to shy away from contributing to discussions that will help uplift the image of the entire Prampram Traditional Council.
