The Ashaiman Divisional Police Command, has arrested a gang of eight suspected robbers believed to be behind robbery activities at Zeenu and Lebanon near Ashaiman in the Greater Accra Region.
The suspects who have been on the Police wanted list for the past six months have been remanded by the Tema “A” Circuit Court.
They are Nathan Baidoo, alias Kingkong, 26; Daniel Mensah, alias Waskolo, 28; Yaw Doudoo, alias Boosu, 21; Waliku Zakariah, alias Wazir, 22; Emmanuel Ofori 28; George Brenya, alia Manso, 30; Kwaku Isaac, 24; and Ernest Nyadzi alia Morale, 30.
Chief Superintendent David Eklu, Ashaiman Divisional Police Commander, told the Ghana News Agency in an interview in Accra that at 0230 hours on June 30, the gang stormed a house at Zenu near Tema Community Annex and succeeded in robbing the family at gun point.
They made away with household electronic gadgets including eight mobile phones, one laptop computer, two table top computers, one ipad, two DSTV and some jewelleries.
He said the victims lodged a complaint with Lebanon Police.
At 0100 hours on September 9, the gang went into action again at Lebanon, near Pink Lady and attacked a foreign national and his family and made away with 10 million CFA, two laptop computers and seven mobile phones, while the two victims sustained gunshot wounds.
Chief Superintendent Eklu said upon a tip off Baidoo was arrested and during a search on him a mobile phone in his possession was identified by one of the robbery victims.
Further investigations led to the arrest of Mensa, Doudoo, Zakariah, Ofori and Nyadzi in Ashaiman while Brenya and Isaac were arrested by the Oda Divisional Police at their hide-out at Akyem Akroso in the Eastern Region.
