The Western Central Regional Police Command has arrested the Assembly Member for the Tarkwa Bremang Electoral Area, Isaac Duku, popularly known as Agoogi, for allegedly engaging in illegal mining and unlawfully diverting a public road for his personal use.
According to a statement posted by the Ghana Police Service on Facebook, the arrest was effected on 19th July 2025 at Dortaso near Tarkwa, following a complaint lodged by concerned residents at the Bawdie Police Station on 14th July.
The residents reported that Mr Duku had illegally diverted the main access road serving the local community onto his private land without the necessary authorisation.
Investigations also revealed that the diverted stretch was being used to conduct illegal mining activities, believed to be spearheaded by the suspect.
The police confirmed that Mr Duku is currently assisting with investigations, and further updates will be provided in due course.
Local authorities and civil society organisations have since called for a thorough probe and strict legal action, urging that no individual regardless of political or social standing should be allowed to operate above the law.
