Some local athletes preparing for international duties say they are frustrated by the suspension imposed on Ghana by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
The IOC imposed the suspension on Ghana for what it describes AS government's failure to comply with its directive to follow the road map to solving the impasse between various factions within the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC).
An athlete, Kweku Nimako, among a hand full of sportsmen and women who reported for training at the El-Wak Sports stadium today told Joy News he feels terrible about the suspension.
“..this is a career for some of these people. This is what they actually feed on and mostly athletes want to get international exposure. Now that we have been banned from all international competitions, seriously there is no need for training and athletes are really, really not motivated in this country,” he lamented.
Former deputy sports minister under the Kufour administration says the suspension is an embarrassment to the nation.
According to Mr. OB Amoah, Ghana's status in the sporting fraternity should not have warranted such measure.
He however believes that the officials should move forward as quickly as possible to address the problem: "As we speak GOC offices have been closed down so we should try and resolve all these things."
