The Member of Parliament (MP) for Atiwa East, Abena Osei-Asare has cut sod for the construction of an artificial football pitch with ancillary facilities at Asaman Tamfoe, a town near Anyinam in the Eastern Region.
The facility was initiated by the MP with funding support from Exim Bank Ghana and will be constructed by Best Constructions Company Limited.
According to the MP, the FIFA-standard Astro Turf with floodlights, when completed will increase the number of Astro Turfs she has commissioned in the constituency to three.
The first two are at various stages of completion in Awosoase and Akutuase.

At a ceremony to cut the sod for construction works to begin, Abena Osei-Asare said the project will help promote sports development and unearth talents in the area.
She explained at the sod cutting ceremony which was attended by the chiefs and elders of the town that the project will boost the morale of enthusiastic sports followers.
"I decided to lobby for this project for my people. In the first place, we have already done two; in Awosoase and Akutuase. The purpose is to unearth sports talents especially in football since it's the passion of the nation and has the potential of uniting everybody regardless of your affiliation," she stressed.

On his part, the CEO of Best Constructions Company, Nana Antwi said the turf will be an eleven-aside football pitch with floodlights and washrooms.
According to him, even though they have been tasked to complete the project in four months, he hopes to finish and handover within the next three months.
