Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has praised the outgoing majority leadership for their significant contributions to the National Democratic Congress' (NDC) success in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.
He commended their exceptional leadership, particularly highlighting their steadfast opposition to the ruling government during their time at the helm of the minority caucus over the last two years.
In an interview on Channel One TV on Monday, January 27, Ayariga spoke highly of the leadership of Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, who served as the former minority leader, along with Emmanuel Armah-Kofi Buah, the Deputy Leader and Minister-designate for Lands and Natural Resources, and Kwame Governs Agbodza, the former Chief Whip and Minister of Roads and Highways.
He noted that their effective leadership had a lasting positive impact on the NDC’s electoral prospects.
Ayariga expressed his admiration for their ability to coordinate and steer the caucus, ensuring that the NDC remained a formidable force in the opposition.
He highlighted that the last two years had witnessed a vigorous and sustained challenge to the ruling government, which, in his view, played a crucial role in strengthening the NDC’s position ahead of the elections.
“Their leadership was truly commendable,” Ayariga remarked, “They conducted themselves in a manner that amplified the voice of the NDC and kept us engaged in critical debates that resonated with the electorate.”
He emphasised that their dedication ensured that the party's message was effectively communicated, without any issues being overlooked.
Looking back on the period, Ayariga concluded, “The caucus never backed down from holding the government to account. It was a dynamic period, and the results speak for themselves. The foundation they have laid will undoubtedly contribute to the NDC's success in the upcoming election.”
