Officials and distributors of Awake Purified Drinking Water joined Ghanaians and the world to observe this year’s World Water Day with a call on Ghanaians to drink quality water and to protect water bodies.
Produced by Kasapreko Company Limited, Awake Water, in marking the United Nations-backed Day, organised a series of activities to make the day a memorable one.
The company paid courtesy calls on selected media and gave them free boxes of Awake Water, educated the general public on the importance of water through a street activation float and also giving out free Awake water to consumers at some locations.
As part of the Day’s activities, officials also donated free boxes of Awake Water to the Mamobi, Kaneshie and Madina Polyclinics which were given to patients at these health centres.

Speaking to media, the Director of Water and CSD at Kasapreko, Eunice Bonsu re-echoed the need for people to preserve water since it's essential to saving lives citing Awake’s #One4Life initiative in which a pesewa or two pesewas on each bottle sold is given to the National Cardiothoracic Centre to cater for patients with hole in heart.
“Water is an essential commodity in our lives and we at Awake have decided to save lives using water. It is for this we brought on board the #One4Life initiative to support persons with heart defects since the heart is central to the body system,” Mrs Bonsu said.
The World Water Day is marked annually on March 22 and its about taking action to tackle the water crisis facing the world. This year’s theme was “Why Waste Water?”
It is estimated that about 1.8 billion people don’t have access to quality drinking water. The Day was officially designated by the United Nations in 1993.
