On the eve of President-elect John Mahama’s swearing-in ceremony, outgoing Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia took to Twitter to express his gratitude to the people of Ghana for their support during his tenure.
The tweet, brief yet heartfelt, marked the end of his eight-year service as Vice President.
He wrote: “Thank you, all Ghanaians, for all the support you gave me as Vice President of the Republic from 2017-2025. God bless our homeland Ghana.”
Dr. Bawumia’s tenure as Vice President under the New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration was characterised by a strong focus on digitisation, economic reforms, and infrastructure development.
As a technocrat-turned-politician, he played a pivotal role in advancing policies aimed at transforming Ghana’s economy, particularly in the realms of technology and financial inclusion.
Thank you, all Ghanaians, for all the support you gave me as Vice President of the Republic from 2017-2025.

His leadership saw the implementation of groundbreaking initiatives such as the digital property address system, mobile money interoperability, and the National ID Card project, which have significantly modernised Ghana’s public services.
The former Vice President’s message was widely interpreted as a gracious acknowledgement of the end of his term and a gesture of goodwill toward the incoming administration.
By thanking Ghanaians for their support, he emphasised the collective nature of leadership and governance.
Dr Bawumia’s concluding words, “God bless our homeland Ghana,” underscored his enduring commitment to the country, regardless of political transitions.
The tweet garnered a wave of responses from citizens, with many thanking him for his contributions and wishing him well in his next chapter.
Supporters of both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) lauded the tone of unity and respect in his farewell message.
As Ghana transitions to the leadership of President-elect John Mahama, Dr. Bawumia’s departure marks the end of an era for the NPP and its governance.
His farewell tweet sets a precedent for peaceful and respectful transitions of power, a hallmark of Ghana’s democratic maturity.
While Dr Bawumia’s next steps remain uncertain, his legacy as a transformative leader in Ghana’s political and economic landscape is assured.
His parting message serves as a reminder of the importance of service, unity, and faith in the nation’s future.
