Former Vice President and New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential aspirant, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has announced plans to reserve at least ten national-level appointments for every constituency should he lead an NPP government in the future.
The proposal, which he described as the “one constituency, ten appointments” initiative, is intended to deepen grassroots participation in governance and strengthen party structures at the local level.
According to Dr Bawumia, constituencies would be given the opportunity to recommend competent and deserving individuals for appointment, with the expectation that beneficiaries would also contribute meaningfully to development efforts in their respective areas.
In a message to party delegates ahead of the NPP presidential primaries scheduled for January 31, he said his broader vision is to ensure that all constituencies are resilient, sustainable and fairly represented in national governance.
He disclosed that out of an estimated 7,000 national appointments, 3,000 would be deliberately allocated across constituencies nationwide.
These appointments, he explained, would include ministers and deputy ministers of state, chief executive officers and their deputies, ambassadors and deputy ambassadors, as well as board positions.
“My plan is to strengthen all constituencies in Ghana to be resilient and sustainable. Most of the time, some constituencies are left out in the appointment process. As a future President of Ghana, God willing, I will dedicate 3,000 out of 7,000 national appointments to constituencies nationwide."
“Every constituency will get at least 10 national-level appointments per constituency, including ministers of state, deputy ministers, CEOs, deputy CEOs, Ambassadors, Deputy Ambassadors, Board of Directors, amongst others,” he promised.
Dr Bawumia further cautioned that performance would be a key benchmark under his leadership, warning that appointees who fail to deliver would be replaced with more capable hands.
He is contesting the NPP flagbearer position alongside Kennedy Agyapong, Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum and Dr Bryan Acheampong.
