Mrs Ama Benyiwa Doe, Central Regional Minister, has called for the enactment of a law to limit the award of contracts in election year.
She explained that such legislation could avert the pilling up of debts as a result of the award of many contracts by an outgoing government.
Mrs Benyiwa Doe, who was addressing a durbar of chiefs and people of Agona Nsaba as part of her tour of Agona East District and West Municipality on Friday, cited that the NPP Government left debts for the NDC Government to settle due to many contracts it awarded some about a week to the 2008 Election, without sourcing funding.
She said such situations made it difficult for incoming governments to implement its programmes.
Mrs Benyiwa Doe also attended durbars of chiefs and people at Agona Duakwa, Agona Asafo and Agona Kwanyaku in the Agona East District, and Agona Swedru and Agona Nyakrom in the Agona West Municipality.
Mrs. Benyiwa Doe called on Ghanaians to support the NDC Government, saying its "Better Ghana" was on course.
She expressed concern about the deteriorating conditions of roads in the country and said the roads would not have been so if the previous government had maintained them every two years.
Mrs. Benyiwa Doe assured the people that efforts were being made to rehabilitate roads in the country.
She appealed to chiefs to assist the district assemblies in revenue generation and to be interested in how such funds were disbursed or used.
Mrs. Benyiwa Doe appealed to the communities to form watchdog committees to assist the Police, who were restrained by limited resources, to ensure law and order.
She inaugurated a GH¢45,000 three-unit classroom block with office, staff common room and toilet facility, at Agona Kwanyaku.
