The Attorney General, Betty Mould Iddrisu has expressed disappointment over a high court ruling ordering the Bureau of National Investigations to return passport of ex-Foreign Minister, Akwasi Osei Adjei.
“We are not delighted with the ruling. Obviously, we wish it had gone our way. We respect the decision of the court,” the Attorney General and Minister of Justice told Joy News shortly after the ruling on Tuesday.
Mr. Adjei sued the investigative body for seizure of his passport, which curtailed his freedom of movement outside the country.
He is under investigations by the BNI for his alleged involvement in the importation of rice from India last year which is said to be fraught with some malfeasance.
He has however denied any wrong doing.
By the ruling the BNI can only restrict the movement of the ex-Minister on a court order.
Mrs Betty Mould said her outfit will be meeting with officials of the BNI to chart the proper way forward.
She was not ready to say if government will appeal the decision, but said the government will only return the passport to the ex-minister in seven days if it decides not to appeal the decision.
