The Bakpa Students Association in collaboration with the Ceciyaa Foundation, a women and children based NGO have donated books to the Bincha D/A School in the Nkwanta South District of the Volta region, following a Joy News report on poor educational facilities there.
Their story was featured in the Joy News’ documentary “Jungle Poor,” produced by Joseph Opoku Gakpo. The school had no desks and no books. The classroom structure consists of tree stumps roofed with thatch.
Following the report, the Bakpa Students Association and Ceciyaa Foundation have donated 300 notebooks to the school. A large baggage of clothes was also donated to the community.
“We were touched when the story was published last year, and we have been working hard and praying to the Almighty to bring a smile to their faces because we have the passion for such,” President and founder of the Bakpa Students Association, Bedzina Confidence said after the donation.
“There is a great potential in the children, future leaders are there. We hope to see them rise and become great people in the future as we continue to motivate them in diverse ways,” he added.
Members of the community expressed gratitude to the organisations for the donation.
Already, the school has benefited from a number of goodies since their story broke last year.
The district assembly has begun the construction of a three-unit classroom block for the school which has reached the roofing level. The District Education Directorate has also donated 20 desks to the school.
Additional, the Victoria Michaels Foundation, an NGO, has pledged to build classroom blocks for the school.
