Ghanaian International Nathaniel Adjei posted an emotional farewell on social media to Swedish outfit Hammarby IF following his permanent switch to Lorient FC after serving for the club on loan.
The move, worth just over 5 million euros, makes the dynamic defender the most expensive player ever to come out of the Swedish top flight.
Adjei moved to Hammarby from the Ghanaian Division One League side Danbort FC and enjoyed a fruitful two-year stint with the club, making 32 appearances and scoring once.
His performances caught the eye of FC Lorient in the French Ligue 1, who signed him on loan in January of 2024.
Although Adjei could not save the club from relegation, his 15 appearances for the club were proven enough to warrant an activation of the option-to-buy clause in his loan contract.
The 21-year-old took to social media to express his gratitude to Hammarby for giving him his breakthrough in Europe.
“Hey everyone. It has been nearly three years since my arrival at Hammarby.”
“My ambition has always been to help Hammarby grow and become even more amazing than it already is, and that has been my purpose since the day I signed.”
“I have had many wonderful experiences as well as some more challenging ones while I have been at this lovely club. I was always surrounded by amazing supporters at a fantastic club, both in good and bad times.”
“I will always cherish the fact that you supported me at my darkest moments.”
“It's a privilege to have been able to perform, had fun, and smile in a Stadium as special as Tele2Arena with all of our amazing supporters.”
“Additionally, I would like to thank all of my teammates, the staff, and everyone else who has always had such faith in me.”
