The Concerned Clergy Association of Ghana, has added its voice to the call on NPP Members of Parliament, to rescind their decision not to participate in the ongoing vetting of ministerial nominees of the President. The Minority in Parliament and NPP members on the Appointment Committee decided not to participate in the exercise stating that, the December 7, 2012, Presidential election in which President Mahama emerged as winner is being challenged at the Supreme Court. According to the minority, if they were to vet the president’s nominees then the minority would be giving legitimacy to the fact that, President Mahama is recognized as the president and has won the election fairly. The decision has been heavily criticized by the public and interest groups including the Ghana Bar Association, who are urging the NPP MPs to take part in the exercise in the interest of the public. The Clergy Association is the latest group to issue a release saying: “We respect your right to exercise a boycott but at this moment when the nation is going through challenging times, you could have been a bit circumspect not to do anything to heighten the tension”. “Even though you are in court it is still your constitutional and patriotic duty to help GHANA get the best in governance so boycotting any event that borders on governance is to let down the many people who love you and voted for you. “May God touch your hearts to reconsider your decision which is very crucial to the future development of our nation and its democracy.....! “Rom. 14:16....Do not allow what you consider good to be spoken of as evil,” the statement said.
