Bright Senior High School has announced a scholarship programme in partnership with Blyth Academy in Canada and the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly in the Eastern Region.
This initiative aims to sponsor brilliant Junior High School (JHS) leavers through their Senior High School education and into tertiary institutions in Ghana or Canada.
The scholarship, starting in the 2024/2025 academic year, will provide beneficiaries with free education at Bright SHS, a private institution renowned for academic excellence.
The top-performing student will receive a GHC 10,000 prize, while the first and second runners-up will receive GHC 5,000 and GHC 3,000 respectively for their upkeep.
The programme aims to enhance human capital development for the 21st century, focusing on students interested in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) courses at the university level.
Applicants must be JHS graduates and submit their Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) results or terminal reports and birth certificates if awaiting BECE results.
Free Google application forms are available on Bright SHS social media platforms and in hard copy at the school and the Abuakwa North Municipal Assembly.
An independent panel, including representatives from the Municipal Education Directorate and experienced tutors, will assess applicants on their proficiency in Mathematics, Science, and English.
The assessment will take place on August 23, 2024, at the school premises. Bright SHS will provide free accommodation and meals for applicants and their parents travelling from distant areas.
Mr Dominic Acquah, Vice President of Bright SHS, emphasized the school's commitment to supporting brilliant students to achieve their dreams.
Alhaji Umar Bodinga, the Municipal Chief Executive for Abuakwa North, encouraged parents to guide their qualified children in applying for this scholarship.
The MCE stressed government's intention to increase high school graduates transition rate to university from 35 % in 2022 to 50% in the next three years.
Bright SHS, located in Akyem Kukurantumi near Koforidua, has received multiple accolades, including recognition as the best private SHS in Ghana for 2021 by the West Africa International Press Limited and the best private school in the Abuakwa North municipality in December 2022 by the Assembly's education oversight committee.
The school's partnership with Canada's Blyth Academy, established last year, aims to provide more opportunities for Ghanaian students.
Prominent figures such as Alhaji Umar Bodinga and Dr Martin Otu Offei, a Senior Lecturer at Koforidua Technical University, have praised Bright SHS for its academic excellence and the opportunities it provides to students.
