The British Council has engaged the Volta region Council of State Representative, Gabriel Tanko Kwamigah-Atokple on the upcoming 5th UK Study Alumni Awards in Ghana.
Led by the Director of Programmes and Partnerships at the British Council, Richard Kwasi Shiangbor, the courtesy call underscored the significance of the awards in recognising outstanding UK alumni who are making remarkable contributions across various fields in Ghana.
With the awards expanding to over 100 countries and set to take place in 23 nations this year, the initiative continues to highlight the transformative impact of international education. Winners of the awards will also gain exclusive professional networking opportunities in the UK in 2026, fostering stronger cross-border collaborations and knowledge exchange between Ghana and the United Kingdom.
During the discussions, Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple commended the British Council for its unwavering commitment to promoting education and fostering partnerships that drive social impact and sustainability.
He emphasised that beyond the recognition the awards bring, structured support is critical to ensuring that the innovative ideas of alumni translate into meaningful change.
“I firmly believe that turning great ideas into reality requires structured backing. Beyond celebrating achievements, it is crucial to provide the necessary resources, investment, and policy support to amplify the impact of these alumni,” he stated.
As part of his commitment to enhancing educational opportunities in Ghana, Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple pledged to connect the British Council team with key stakeholders, investors, and policymakers to further drive their initiatives.
He also shared his vision for the Volta Region, which includes sponsoring students from the region to pursue higher education through a collaborative effort between his office and the British Council.
“Education is a powerful tool for change, and I remain dedicated to creating opportunities that empower young minds and contribute to sustainable development in Ghana and beyond,” he added.
The UK Study Alumni Awards serve as a platform to showcase the achievements of UK-educated Ghanaians and their role in national development.
The upcoming edition in Ghana is expected to highlight individuals whose work is shaping industries, driving social transformation, and reinforcing the strong educational ties between Ghana and the UK.
The British Council’s engagement with Mr. Kwamigah-Atokple marks a significant step towards expanding the reach and impact of the awards while fostering greater collaboration in Ghana’s educational landscape.
