Some Fulanis from Barikansi in Burkina Faso who sought refuge in the Bawku West town of Sapeliga following a conflict in their town are being evacuated to another town in Burkina Faso.
The refugees numbering about 600 fled their country after conflict erupted in their town earlier this week.
District officials say authorities from Burkina Faso are sending down buses to transport them back to their home country today, January 6.
According to the Joy News’ Upper East regional correspondent, Albert Soree, the Governor for the Central East region of Burkina Faso, Alhaji Adiallo has arrived the Bawku West District and he is cordinating the evacuation exercise with the aid of the Bawku West District Assembly.
The Burkinabe authorities say they are evacuating the refugees to a neighbouring town of Ayuga in Burkina Faso until the conflict situation in the town of Barinkansi is effectively brought under control.
