Ghanaian business managers are being entreated to look into the future with the acquisition of leadership skills to effectively manage human and material resources.
Human Resource and Leadership Consultant, John Fiafor says it is not enough to have people with managerial qualities at the helm of affairs in today’s organizational building.
He says business and industrial transformation now requires managers with exceptional leadership drive to show the way in problem solving.
Mr. Fiafor was speaking on Leadership in Business at a seminar in Kumasi. It was organized by the Centre for Management Research and Professional Development (CMRPD) at the University of Ghana Business School.
Mr. Fiafor described as a fallacy and old fashioned the notion that ‘leaders are born, not made’, emphasizing that everyone can be trained to be a leader.
“We need our managers to be able to lead the workers, just as leaders also need to manage. So it is effective when we have our managers knowing something about leadership that enables them to actually harness the resources of the workforce to achieve effective results”, he told Luv FM in an interview.
The HR consultant says it is important for managers to also support their subordinates to excel, through the right training and coaching.
The leadership seminar in Kumasi is the first to be organized by the CMRPD outside of Accra.
Programme Manager, Matilda Attoh Brehum said the programme will be institutionalized following the success of the pilot event.
