Some members of CAF have endorsed Ghana's Football Association (FA) boss Kwasi Nyantakyi who had been vying to serve as the Western Zone B representative on the CAF executive committee.
Sources told Xinhua on Tuesday that members on the executive committee of the CAF, made of African football heads at an earlier meeting, unanimously agreed to back the nomination of Nyantakyi for the position during the continent's governing body elections slated for next month.
Nyantakyi would come up against representatives from Benin, Niger and Togo for the single slot with the elections expected to take place at CAF's 33rd Ordinary General Assembly on February 23, 2011 in Sudan.
Over 20 FA presidents across the continent, who have converged in Ghana's capital, Accra for Wednesday's inauguration of the FIFA Goal III project all threw their weight behind the Ghanaian.
Seedy Kinteh, Gambian FA president said the Ghanaian FA boss' works over the years made his candidature a good choice.
"He is very popular at CAF and Ghanaians will know that by what happens in Khartoum. I have known him since 2005 and this man ( Nyantakyi) deserves whatever he wishes on the continent," Kinteh said on GFA official website.
The President of the Zambian Football Association and former African Footballer of the year, Kalusha Bwalya, believed Nyantakyi stood tall amongst his fellow competitors.
Nyantakyi was instrumental in qualifying the West African country to two successive FIFA World Cup finals and has been at the forefront of various reforms at Ghana's FA.
