Camel, a brand under PZ Cussions Company Limited, has donated GH¢250,000 and some products to the Oncology Unit at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital to mark International Childhood Cancer Day.
February 15 is marked as International Childhood Cancer Day.
As part of Camel’s Corporate Social Responsibility, it started the ‘Camel Because We Care’ Campaign which sets aside 20 pesewas of every product purchased to support the Childhood Cancer Department at Korle Bu.
Marketing Manager for the brand, MaryAnn Boateng said the campaign has triggered more purchases as people want to help the little way they can.
“Ghanaians have bought our products and brought us to where we are now. We decided that it was a good opportunity to give back to society and in so doing, we wanted to do something for the vulnerable in society and these are children.”
“Children are the most vulnerable in society especially those who have childhood cancer, it’s not covered by the National Health Insurance. Most parents who find themselves in this situation pay out of their pockets. So we decided that we wanted to do something that would be impactful in society especially in these hard times,” she said.
Deputy Director at Child Health Department at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, Leticia Amengor, indicated that the donation by Camel will go a long way to cover the bills of many, and provide a clean environment to aid the process of healing.
“I believe this present will go a long way to help our children who are in the hospital. I believe the soap, sanitiser and disinfectants will all help in these trying times of covid. No amount is too small for us, it will go a long way to help our children with their diagnosis and their treatments,” she said.
