World 800m champion Caster Semenya has been left out of South Africa's team for the upcoming African Championships.
The 19-year-old has not competed for almost a year after gender tests but was cleared to compete by the athletics world governing body (IAAF) on Tuesday.
Semenya was expected to be involved for the games in Kenya on 28 July but will now work towards the Commonwealth Games in India this October.
She is set to return to competition at a low-key meet in Finland on 15 July.
The teenager has not raced competitively since winning the 800m world title in Berlin in August 2009.
It was in Germany where she sprang to world prominence, with rapid improvements over two laps leading some to speculate about her gender.
The IAAF had previously asked South Africa to withdraw Semenya from their team for Berlin after initial tests.
But Athletics South Africa (ASA) insisted she should take part, with Semenya, then 18, going on to win the final comfortably.
The IAAF then ordered more tests but, in January of this year, allowed the athlete to run competitively once again.
South African Olympic Committee president Gideon Sam maintained, however, that Semenya would not return to the track until a complete resolution of the testing procedure, which came on Tuesday.
On Wednesday, Semenya underwent fitness tests to determine if she was ready to compete after her long absence, with the ASA clearly deciding that she is still not in good enough shape for the rigours of a major championship.
