A Dormaa Catholic Priest, Reverend Father Ernest Frimpong, has called on the youth of the Church to show empathy to people by sharing in their feelings. He noted that the youth of today needed the ability to deeply imagine and share in the feelings of others, which demanded more than showing sympathy. He said this when he delivered a sermon to round off a four-day Catholic Parish Youth Conference at Dormaa-Ahenkro under the theme: “Do more–Stay Clear of Social Vices”.Catholic youth from all communities within the Dormaa Catholic Parish attended the conference, which saw the youth participate in in-door and out-door games.Reverend Father Frimpong said even though the virtues of sympathy and empathy were closely linked, and were sometimes deemed to be similar in meaning, empathy had a slight urge over sympathy in that the former involved a deeper appreciation of other people’s feelings and emotions. He said as young Christians bracing themselves up for leadership within the Church and the nation, they should submit to total discipline at home, school, and the workplace.Reverend Father Frimpong told the youth to desist from drugs, premarital sex, and occultism. He also appealed to them to dedicate more time to the reading of the Holy Bible and their course books since it was the only sure way they could become responsible adults.Source: GNA
